The Samsung HW-D450ZA is designed to sit on your TV stand or entertainment center, or you can choose to mount the sound bar on your wall. It comes with a wireless subwoofer that weighs just over 12 pounds, so it is light enough to move without breaking much of a sweat. While you have the option of placing the subwoofer anywhere in your room, many people opt to place their wireless subwoofers behind furniture in an effort to keep their room clean and uncluttered.

The included multi-function remote control is extremely intuitive, containing a TV hotkey that allows you to execute various operations with just the press of a button. The Smart Volume button is particularly useful. It regulates the volume level when there are drastic volume changes, reducing the volume during loud explosions and increasing it during quiet conversations. The Sound Mode feature enables you to switch between numerous EQ presets, such as Music, News, Drama, Cinema, Sports and Game sound modes. The remote control is operational up to 23 feet from the sound bar in a straight line. Depending on the TV you own, you may even be able to use the Samsung sound bar remote to control your television.

As an extra bonus, this3D sound bar is Energy Star Compliant, meaning it uses less energy, which in turn saves you cash and helps protect the environment.

Churning out 280 watts of total power, the Samsung HW-D450ZA sound bar produces an ample amount of volume while producing clear highs and respectable lows. While we appreciate the wireless subwoofer's mobility, it doesn't produce the same rumbling bass some of its competitors. That being said, it is a significant step up from any bass you'd hear from your television speakers.

With a signal to noise ratio of 70dB, the Samsung HW-D450ZA sound bar produces relatively little background noise, allowing you to enjoy your movies without a significant amount of hiss or general electronic background noise.

Overall, we are very pleased with the Samsung sound bar and its ability to produce simulated surround sound. With the various sound modes, you will also be able to manipulate audio to your exact liking. Drama mode, for example, produces stronger bass than the standard Pass mode. Having difficulty making out dialogue? Switch to Cinema mode, which minimizes bass and adds a slight echo to the audio, enhancing the dialogue.

The Samsung sound bar provides two optical outputs for connecting DVD players, video game consoles and other digital components. Also included is a 3.5mm jack allowing you to hook up your MP3 player or iPod. Additionally, you can connect your iPod with the optional iPod cradle dock. We are disappointed that no HDMI ports are included on the unit, since HDMI connectivity allows for the purest audio signal available.
